Choirs of Provence

Choir presentation

A four-part mixed choir bringing together around fifty amateur choristers from Marseille and the Provence region. Founded in 1980 by Alain Chouvet, then conducted by Claude Rose from 1998 to 2007, it has been led by Gallian Ressort since 2008. Each year, the Chœurs de Provence perform in Marseille and throughout the region, where large audiences appreciate their programme of well-known and lesser-known works, such as: Berlioz’s “Lélio” (2009); Kodály’s “Te Deum” (2010); Mendelssohn’s “Lauda Sion” (2011); Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” (2012). In 2008 and 2011, the Chœurs de Provence introduced a contemporary and surprising work, Schönherr’s “Magnificat”, which was a great success.

Awards & distinctions

In 2016, their performance of Martin Palmeri’s “Misatango” thrilled their audience. In June 2019, the Chœurs de Provence took part in the world premiere of Martin Palmeri’s new work, the “Gran Misa”, at Carnegie Hall in New York. In 2020, the Chœurs de Provence had the pleasure of accompanying the candidates on the programme “Prodiges”, broadcast on France 2.
