Vocal Ensemble of Méounes

Vocal Ensemble of Méounes – France

Choir presentation

Méounes-lès-Montrieux, this small Provençal village, between the sea and the Sainte Baume massif, benefits from an active community life. The vocal ensemble was created in 1997 by Claudine Clément, Choir Director and President.

In 2011, a group of passionate choristers succeeded her, with a new President and Frédéric Verfaillie as the new Choir Director.

Today, President Philippe Bédague and all the choristers, divided into four sections—soprano, alto, tenor, and bass—share with their Director the pleasure of exploring with equal enthusiasm all periods and styles of repertoire.

Awards & distinctions

Throughout these years, the Vocal Ensemble has presented numerous concerts in the region, far from home, and even at sea.

The Ensemble is regularly accompanied on piano by Laurent Signorini, former musician with the Music of the Fleet Crews of Toulon, now piano professor at the Conservatoire de Toulon Provence Méditerranée.

The support of the municipality of Méounes and the Departmental Council enables the Vocal Ensemble to continue its activities with peace of mind and to invite anyone who loves singing and music to join a vibrant and welcoming group.

Its repertoire is highly eclectic, ranging from classical works to sacred songs, including secular, contemporary, and popular music.

THE CHOIR DIRECTOR: Frédéric Verfaillie

Drawn to music from an early age, Frédéric Verfaillie completed his first musical studies at the Academy of Music in Dunkirk, where he acquired solid training. He was also a “Little Singer” with the Manécanterie of the “Rossignolets du Val des Roses,” affiliated with the Petits Chanteurs à la Croix de Bois.

He perfected his classical studies in viola, clarinet, music theory, chamber music, and composition at the National Regional Conservatory of Lille and then Boulogne-Billancourt.

After his musical studies, he held various teaching positions in music schools in the Dunkirk region.

In 1981, he joined the Music of the Fleet Crews of Toulon as a clarinetist. At the same time, he taught music and trained in choir conducting by attending workshops and courses in choir and orchestra conducting.

He was able to continue his passion for choral singing from 1991 onward, when he was invited to serve as choir director for several choirs in the Toulon region.

Since 2011, he has directed the Vocal Ensemble of Méounes, where he explores with equal enthusiasm all styles and periods of repertoire.
