Chinese Taipei Philharmonic Youth & Children’s Choir

Founded in 1989, the Taipei Philharmonic Youth & Children’s Choir (TPYCC) was created with the mission of promoting excellence in children’s choral singing and deepening their cultural awareness. The TPYCC’s repertoire includes sacred music of all periods, folk songs and children’s songs from Taipei and other regions. By offering a pleasant environment and both elementary and advanced musical training, children learn choral singing effortlessly and discover the beauty and pleasure of music.

The TPYCC also participates in various charity events and is committed to providing its children with a healthy, happy and harmonious childhood through musical education.

In addition to guest appearances and regular twice-yearly concerts, the TPYCC has achieved significant international recognition. It won a silver medal at the 10th Sydney International Music Festival in 1999. The TPYCC has also toured the USA and Europe, winning gold and silver medals at the World Choir Games in Germany in 2004, as well as top honors at festivals in Spain and Austria.

In Taipei, the TPYCC has ventured into musical theatre productions and collaborated with renowned conductors such as Kari Ala-Pöllänen (Finland), John August Pamintuan and Maria Theresa Vizconde-Roldan (Philippines), and Anthony Trecek-King (USA).

In 2000, the TPYCC performed at the National Symphony Orchestra’s (NSO) Christmas concert. In 2019, it was invited back by the NSO to take part in the production of Tosca, directed by Huai-Min Lin, . He also performed at the Summa Cum Laude festival in Vienna. In 2023, the TPYCC took part in three major music festivals in Italy, consolidating its international reputation.

These international exchange efforts have made the TPYCC a remarkable success in the Choirs community and enriched the children’s lives with a sense of accomplishment.

The choir won two gold medals at the Copernicus International Choir Festival and Competition (PER MUSICAM AD ASTRA).

THE CHOIR DIRECTOR: Hsiang-Yun Fu

Hsiang-Yun Fu is a leading choral conductor in Taipei, with over thirty years’ experience in choral education, conducting and promotion. She is currently resident conductor of the Taipei Philharmonic Youth & Children’s Choir and the Taipei Philharmonic Women’s Choir. She is also musical director and choirmaster of the Men’s Chorus Gallery and the Harmonia Chorus, as well as teaching choirmaster at Nan-hu High School.

His conducting style is characterized by meticulous attention to detail and dynamic tension, brilliantly combining vocal technique and emotional interpretation to create captivating stage performances.

Beyond her competition successes, Hsiang-Yun Fu is recognized for her profound concert productions, such as the Seek the Sound of Time series with the Taipei Philharmonic Women’s Choir. She actively encourages interdisciplinary collaborations, notably preparing the Harmonia Chorus for Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 with theTaipei Philharmonic Orchestra in 2025, and conducting the Choirs for the musical Who is That Woman.

His ongoing commitment is helping to raise the artistic standards and cultural influence of Choirs music in Taipei.

Awards & distinctions

Hsiang-Yun Fu has demonstrated outstanding leadership on the international stage. In 2024, she was honored with the Best Choral Conductor Award and the Best Interpretation of a Contemporary Work Award at the 15th Cantemus International Choir Festival in Hungary. Her individual honors date back to 2008, when she won the Best Choral Conductor Award at theOrientale Concentus in Singapore.

Over the past fifteen years, the ensembles she has directed have won over 20 international gold medals and numerous championship titles in various categories in Italy, Canada, Poland, Croatia, Hungary and Hong Kong.
