Two ensembles from Bristol Show Choir, each bringing together around 120 singers, will bring the energy of British a cappella musical theatre to Provence.

Awards & distinctions

Founded in Bristol in 2017, Show Choir has become one of the city’s largest community ensembles. The collective now brings together over 250 members across several groups. For the 2027 competition, two ensembles of approximately 120 singers each will represent Bristol in Provence.

The choir is dedicated to musical theatre and performs a cappella arrangements specifically designed for its singers. Open to adults without audition, it combines musical excellence, stage energy, and a welcoming spirit. Its members perform at local concerts as well as in major venues and festivals, notably the Edinburgh Fringe, and have also performed at Carnegie Hall in New York. Their appearance promises a generous, spectacular performance resolutely focused on audience enjoyment.

THE CHOIR DIRECTOR: Douglas Watts and Jack Hamilton

Co-founder of Show Choir, Douglas Watts holds a music degree from the University of Bristol. Trained in singing, musical theatre, and conducting, he creates many of the collective’s arrangements and conducts the Clifton and Westbury-on-Trym groups. A former chorister at Worcester Cathedral and a music graduate from the University of Bristol, Jack Hamilton maintains a parallel career as a singer, musician, and vocal coach. He conducts the Southville and Downend groups. The exact conducting assignments for the two ensembles present in Provence are to be confirmed before publication.
