Mondelle Children’s Choir

Petit Chœur de Mondelle

Choir presentation

Le Petit Chœur de Mondelle, a mixed-voice chamber choir, was born from Stéphane Berrone’s desire to bring together musician friends to work on demanding pieces from the vast and magnificent choral repertoire. It now brings together a chamber choir of fifteen to twenty-five singers from the region (Tarn, Haute-Garonne, Lot, Gers, and Aveyron). They rehearse at the Grange de Mondelle in Saint-Sulpice, a friendly gathering place where they enjoy meeting to work and spend pleasant moments together.

Awards & distinctions

After three years of existence, the choir has already explored a varied and original repertoire, with a strong focus on the 20th century. From Hungarian polyphony to Spanish and Basque music, as well as the Italian Renaissance, they have performed works by composers such as Bardos, Monteverdi, Palestrina, Busto… and Ola Gjeilo, whom they are particularly fond of.

They have given several concerts in the region – Mézens (81), Montastruc (31), the Montayral festival (47), the Marcilhac Abbey festival (46), St. Cecilia’s Cathedral in Albi (81), Ambialet Priory (81), Notre Dame de la Drèche (81) – and performed in Italy (2019) for a series of concerts with the Musicanova choir from Savigliano (Piedmont).

The possibilities offered to this type of ensemble are very broad: after a 2022 season rich in concerts with a repertoire dedicated to contemporary American composers, masterfully accompanied on the piano by Mariella Fiordaliso, they will perform a new program in 2023 titled “War and Peace,” echoing the significant events of the war in Ukraine. This includes works such as Janequin’s “La Guerre” or Arvo Pärt’s “Da Pacem.”

In September 2023, the choir will open its doors to additional choristers and vocal soloists to premiere the St. Léger Mass by Frédéric Ledroit, a composer and organist from Charente, as part of the Marcilhac Abbey festival in the Lot region for the Heritage Days.
