The Academic Choir of Wrocław University of Science and Technology

The Academic Choir of Wrocław University of Science and Technology has existed since 1970. It is one of the university’s cultural institutions.

The choir has several dozen members, including students, graduates, and employees of Wrocław University of Science and Technology and other higher education institutions in Wrocław.

Despite the diversity of their interests, backgrounds, and ages, the members of the Academic Choir of Wrocław University of Science and Technology form a group of friends united by a common passion for singing.

The choir’s repertoire is varied and includes numerous genres and styles, ranging from early music to works by contemporary Polish and foreign composers.

The choir performs both a cappella pieces and vocal and instrumental masterworks with the participation of symphony orchestras and soloists, such as Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Requiem, and Antonín Dvořák’s Stabat Mater.

Awards & distinctions

The choir regularly collaborates with cultural institutions in Wrocław and Lower Silesia (National Forum of Music in Wrocław, Wrocław Opera, Sudeten Philharmonic in Wałbrzych, Lower Silesian Philharmonic in Jelenia Góra, Polish Theatre in Wrocław, and Capitol Music Theater in Wrocław) and participates in national and international projects, such as Singing Europe (2015, 2016), the Wrocław Opera super-shows (2017, 2018, 2019), and the Stage Songs Review gala (PPA 2022).

The choir has received numerous prestigious awards for its contribution to promoting culture (Gloria Artis Medal for Merit to Culture, 2020), as well as many prizes and medals at music festivals and competitions in Poland and Europe.

The choir’s most recent success was winning second prize and the Rector’s Award from Kielce University of Technology at the 6th International Review of Academic Choirs “Holy Cross 2022” in July 2022.

The choir’s discography includes a cappella recordings such as (1995, 2008), “Dzieciątko się narodziło” (2008), and “Pater noster” (2014).

Since 1974, the choir has been the organizer of the Barbórka Academic Choir Festival in Wrocław.

The choirmaster and artistic director of the WUST Academic Choir (since 2000) is Małgorzata Sapiecha-Muzioł.
