The Pro Musica – Magnólia Choir was founded at the Michalovce Primary Art School (Pro Musica) in 1998 and at the Sobrance Primary Art School (Magnólia) in 1985. The choirs have been working together as a union since 2010. In concert, the choir consists of 40 children aged 9 to 17. The founder, artistic director, and choir conductor is Mrs Viera Dzoganova.

Awards & distinctions

The choir has won many prestigious awards worldwide and has taken part in numerous international choral singing festivals. Most often in Europe (Czech Republic, Belgium, Greece, Italy, Finland, Spain, Great Britain, France, etc.), but in 2015 the choir won the Serenade Choral Festival in Washington, DC, and completed two concert tours in Mexico. The choir won the Sacred Music category at the Claudio Monteverdi Choral Festival and Competition in Venice in 2016, and the gold medal at the 36th International Choral Festival of Preveza in Greece in 2018. In 2020, the choir will take part in the Jeju International Choir Festival & Symposium on Jeju Island in South Korea.

THE CHOIR DIRECTOR: Viera Dzoganova

Viera Dzoganova graduated from the Košice Conservatory in 1980 in the accordion department. She continued her studies from 1987 to 1990 and qualified in children’s choir conducting. She graduated from the Faculty of Education at the Catholic University in Ružomberok. She currently works as an accordion teacher, artistic director, and choir conductor of two children’s choirs—Pro Musica in Michalovce and Magnólia in Sobrance.
