Clair Matin Choir

Choir presentation
Founded in 1948 by Georges Prost and taken over in 1953 by Henri Tiscornia, our choir joined in 1955 the À Cœur Joie movement, created at the end of the war in Lyon by César Geoffray. This movement upholds the values of sharing and humanism and aims to promote a love of polyphony in a spirit of friendliness.
Henri Tiscornia, an amateur choir conductor, led Clair Matin for more than 60 years. His passion for music, combined with his tireless dedication, enabled several generations of choristers to give hundreds of concerts in France and abroad, to take part in various festivals—particularly the Choralies in Vaison-la-Romaine—and to support the work of many associations.
Our choir is open to everyone—music lovers and amateurs of all levels, including beginners in singing and music. Gradually, the voice develops and music-reading skills are acquired in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.
THE CHOIR DIRECTOR: Sébastien Portelli
Born in the Toulon area in 1975, he has remained deeply attached to it. During his musical studies at the Toulon Conservatory from 1982 to 1998, he studied piano, percussion, saxhorn, and finally music history and composition.
After his training, Sébastien taught music for a time in a secondary school, then changed direction. In 2013, he returned to music by taking over as conductor of the Cantabile choir in Garéoult, then in 2016 of the Clair Matin Choir, and in 2018 of the USAM Polyphonic Choirs.
In 2017, he founded “Envergure” in Toulon, a choir for young people.
Drawn to orchestral conducting, he resumed his musical studies at the Toulon Conservatory in the conducting class with Messrs Melin, Pairier and Maes. He is also an instrumentalist (percussion) and enjoys singing tenor in a choir when needed.
His open-mindedness, precise work on the scores, good humour and kindness are appreciated by all the choristers.
