The Chamber Choir of the Faculty of Education and Arts in Kalisz, affiliated with Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, was founded in 1996 by its choir director, Beata Szymańska. The ensemble consists of students and graduates of the music arts program. Over the years, the choir has performed on numerous occasions both in Poland and abroad, notably in Germany, Italy, Sweden, North Macedonia, Spain, Romania, and Greece. The ensemble regularly participates in international competitions and festivals, winning numerous prizes and awards. The choir’s repertoire covers a wide range of musical styles and historical periods, ranging from early sacred music to contemporary compositions. The ensemble has frequently collaborated with the Kalisz Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, performing works by composers such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Grzegorz Gerwazy Gorczycki, Wojciech Kilar, Zbigniew Preisner, and Gabriel Fauré.
The choir’s recordings include Polish Christmas carols, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina’s *Missa Lauda Sion*, and *Agnus Dei*—a concerto for bassoon and mixed a cappella choir by Egil Hovland (Polish premiere), recorded in collaboration with Nikodem Antosik, principal bassoonist of the Kalisz Philharmonic Orchestra. The ensemble has also recorded Michael Villmow’s Da pacem, presented as a Polish premiere.
In addition to its artistic activities, the choir co-organizes the Kalisz Choral Festival, thereby contributing to the promotion and development of choral music culture.
THE CHOIR DIRECTOR: Beata Szymańska
Professor Beata Szymańska, who holds a Ph.D. and a Doctor of Science degree (with the right to supervise research), at Adam Mickiewicz University, is a lecturer in choral conducting, the long-time conductor of the Polifonia Academic Choir of Kalisz, and the founder and conductor of the Chamber Choir of the Faculty of Pedagogy and Fine Arts at Adam Mickiewicz University in Kalisz. With this ensemble, she has won numerous awards at national and international competitions in Italy, Germany, North Macedonia, and Spain.
Her repertoire focuses primarily on choral music from the 20th and 21st centuries from around the world. She serves as artistic director of the Kalisz Choral Festival and is a member of the jury for regional choral and vocal competitions.
