Hugo Wolf Chamber Choir

Choir presentation

The Hugo Wolf Chamber Choir (Slovenia) was founded in 2010, on the 150th anniversary of the birth of the Austrian composer of Slovenian origin Hugo Wolf, as part of the “Mostovi” (Bridges) association, which promotes harmony between Slovenian and German cultures in the city of Maribor. The Choirs perform a rich and varied choral repertoire, ranging from early to contemporary music. Particular attention is paid to rediscovering the legacy of composers linked to its home town – including Hugo Wolf, Eduard Lannoy, Robert Stolz, Rudolf Wagner and others – while encouraging the creative work of young Slovenian composers. In 2012, the choir recorded the album Einkehr. The choir has 40 singers and is directed by two choirmasters: Aleš Marčič and Meta Podlesnik Marčič.

Awards & distinctions

In addition to numerous concerts in leading concert halls in Slovenia and abroad, the choir regularly takes part in national and international choral competitions, where it has won numerous prizes (Garda/Italy, Cork/Ireland, Maribor/Slovenia, Ohrid/North Macedonia, Tuzla/Bosnia-Herzegovina, Miltenberg/Germany, Genk/Belgium, Preveza/Greece, Zadar/Croatia).
