Hugo Wolf Chamber Choir

The Hugo Wolf Chamber Choir (Slovenia) was founded in 2010, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of the Austrian composer of Slovenian origin Hugo Wolf, as part of the “Mostovi ” (Bridges), which promotes harmony between Slovenian and German cultures in the city of Maribor. The choir performs a rich and varied choral repertoire, ranging from early music to contemporary works. Particular attention is paid to rediscovering the legacy of composers connected to its hometown—including Hugo Wolf, Eduard Lannoy, Robert Stolz, Rudolf Wagner, and others—while also supporting the creative work of young Slovenian composers. In 2012, the choir recorded the album *Einkehr*. The choir has 40 singers and is led by two conductors: Aleš Marčič and Meta Podlesnik Marčič.
THE CHOIR DIRECTOR: The Hugo Wolf Chamber Choir
ALEŠ MARČIČ
Aleš Marčič is a choral conductor, singer and singing teacher. He trained as a soloist at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria. Since 2008, he has been co-founder and director of the Anton Martin Slomšek School of Music and Ballet in Maribor. He is also active as a vocal pedagogue, concert and music competition organizer, and jury member for choir competitions. He holds the position of vice-president of the Slovenian Association of Vocal Pedagogues, is a member of the National Commission for Music Education in Slovenia and represents Slovenia in the European Union of Music Schools. In recognition of his contribution to choral music, he was awarded the Gallus Certificate, Slovenia’s highest distinction in the field of vocal and choral music. He founded the Hugo Wolf Chamber Choir, the Maribor Concert Choir and several renowned vocal ensembles.
META PODLESNIK MARČIČ
Meta Podlesnik Marčič is a graduate of the Maribor Conservatory of Music and Ballet, where she studied music theory. She is currently pursuing her studies in choral conducting at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria.
She is honing her skills by participating in numerous musical projects in Maribor and Graz, including Bach’s St. John Passion, Saint-Saëns’ Christmas Oratorio, and Haydn’s Kleine Orgelmesse.
She regularly participates in national and international competitions in the disciplines of music theory, ear training, sight-reading, and creativity, where she has won gold medals, first prizes, and special honors.
She is also a jazz singer, pianist, and composer, writing mainly choral works.
