Rutafa Mixed Choir

The Rutafa mixed choir comes from Pécel, Hungary, near Budapest.
This vocal ensemble is one of the three choirs within the Pécel Children and Youth Choir family.
It is composed of high school and university students, as well as parents who are passionate about singing.
The Rutafa mixed choir has been a permanent ensemble since 2009 under the direction of founding conductor Zsuzsa Szilágyiné Szalai and assistant conductors Nóra Szabó and Benjámin Szilágyi. Its repertoire ranges from Gregorian chant to gospel throughout music history, featuring masterpieces from a rich choral culture.
THE CHOIR DIRECTOR: Zsuzsa Szilágyiné Szalai
Zsuzsa Szilágyiné Szalai completed her higher education in Budapest at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, specializing in choral conducting, where she graduated with honors from the classes of József Maklári and Valér Jobbágy.
After obtaining her degree, she taught solfège, music theory, and vocal technique in music schools and conservatories while also working as an accompanist. Currently, she teaches singing and music from first to eighth grade at a primary music school based on the principles established by Zoltán Kodály.
She is the founding conductor of the Rutafa choir family (2003), which consists of three choirs: the children’s choir, the youth choir, and the mixed choir. Since their founding, these ensembles have played an important role in the cultural life of the city of Pécel (Hungary) as well as in Hungarian musical life.
