LES PASTOUREAUX – Little Singers of Waterloo

Conductor: Philippe Favette

The Pastoureaux have long been part of the choral landscape in Belgium, and in Waterloo in particular. In 2024, they will celebrate their fiftieth anniversary.

Initially, it was simply a matter of bringing a little comfort to patients in a hospital, but the small group of children quickly grew and became a choir that took the name “Les Pastoureaux” in reference to the first children who approached the Nativity scene. As their reputation grew, they travelled far and wide, stopping to sing in a wide variety of venues. From the small country church to the Cathedral, from the parish hall to the grand auditorium of the Palais des Beaux-Arts, from a care centre for people with disabilities to the Royal Palace, they have brought the joy of singing everywhere.

Awards & distinctions

Since 1974, Les Pastoureaux have given numerous concerts throughout Belgium and Europe, as well as in the USA, Canada, Japan, Colombia, Brazil, and Argentina. More recently, Les Pastoureaux took part in the “World Peace Choral Festival” in Vienna (2014) and the “European Mozart Ways” in Salzburg (2016), and represented Belgium at the Eurovision Choir in Latvia (2017).

They are regularly invited to various festivals in Belgium, notably with symphony orchestras that require a children’s choir for their programmes. In 2018, they took part in a major international production devoted to Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem, including a concert at the Berlin Philharmonie.

Their many recordings are well worth discovering, including their “authentic” version of Fauré’s Requiem, and their latest live CD featuring works by Vivaldi.
