The Shu-Te University Glee Club, established in 2013, is composed of enthusiastic students from the Department of Performing Arts who share a passion for singing. Invited by the founding and current President Yuan-Hsiang Chu, the group has been under the expert direction of Shan-Min Yu since its inception. Supported by successive department heads, the club adheres to its core philosophy of “joyful singing,” uniquely blending music, theater, and dance to create performances that showcase the distinctive appeal and talent of the Department of Performing Arts.
THE CHOIR DIRECTOR: Shan-Min Yu
Shan-Min Yu holds a Master’s degree in Choral Conducting from Temple University (Philadelphia, USA), a Master’s degree in Film Production from the Graduate Institute of Motion Pictures at the National Taiwan University of Arts, and a Master’s degree in Performance from the Graduate Institute of Theatre Arts at the Taipei National University of the Arts. She also earned a Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance from Westminster Choir College (USA).
She is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Performing Arts at Shu-Te University in Taiwan. She also serves as the conductor and artistic director of the Shu-Te University Glee Choir, the Tainan Chamber Choir, and the Penghu Cultural Affairs Bureau Choir, as well as the artistic director, stage director, and conductor of the PLAY Theatre Company.
Yu is a rare artist with a strong academic background in music, theater, and film. She has been deeply involved in higher education and community arts, particularly in promoting choral arts and their contemporary evolution. Her creative output is both prolific and diverse, grounded in over 30 years of deep and dynamic exploration of musical theater and the stage. Her expertise spans singing, acting, movement, playwriting, directing, musical theater production, and film production.
