Permoník Karviná Men’s Chamber Choir

Choir presentation

The Male Chamber Choir (MKS for short) was founded in 2013 by several former members of the Permoník Concert Choir, and its ranks have been steadily growing ever since. During rehearsals, young men aged 12 to 26 meet twice a week, on Thursdays and Fridays.

The choir’s repertoire is vast, ranging from sacred works to folk and musical melodies. A significant part of its repertoire consists of music from the 20th and 21st centuries, for example, by J. Vičar, J. Bernátek, E. Hradecký, and many others. Together with the girls from the Permoník Concert Choir, they form the Permoník Youth Choir, whose repertoire focuses on spiritual works from different periods (G.F. Handel, J.J. Ryba, S. Rachmaninov, contemporary composers K.A. Arnesen, E. Whitacre, etc.). In addition to classical concerts, MKS is regularly invited to perform at various festive events and exhibition openings. Like the other choirs of the studio, it also participates in educational concerts.

Awards & distinctions

Although the Permoník Karviná Male Chamber Choir was founded relatively recently, it has successfully won numerous awards. It has repeatedly won gold and silver medals in international competitions (Golden Voices of Montserrat, Cracovia Cantans, Botticelli International Choral Festival, Gangneung World Choir Games…). MKS’s latest success is winning in the chamber choir category and receiving the award for the best Czech composition performed at the international Svátky písní Olomouc festival in 2024.

THE CHOIR DIRECTOR: Karina Grimová

The choirmaster is Karina Grimová, accompanied on piano by Jakub Šotkovský.
