Deutsche Welle Choir

The DW International Choir was founded in 1993 by employees of the German international broadcaster, Deutsche Welle. Today, it has more than 40 active members from around twenty countries, joined by singers from outside the DW as well.
The choir’s repertoire is as colorful as the national costumes in which the singers perform and includes folk and art songs from all over the world. All pieces are performed in their original language. They convey the joy of various choral traditions and a message of unity through music.
THE CHOIR DIRECTOR: Maja Braun
Maja Braun is a journalist by profession, but she has also been an enthusiastic and versatile musician since childhood. She began working at Deutsche Welle’s Africa desk before taking on management roles in the field of program development.
During her university studies, she founded the first African student choir in the city of Leipzig, in eastern Germany. In 2008, she took over the direction of the Deutsche Welle International Choir, continuing her passion for exploring beautiful melodies from musical traditions around the world.
