Coro de Niños Cantores de Córdoba

Choir presentation

The Córdoba Children’s Choir is a children’s choral ensemble attached to the Instituto Superior en Educación Artístico Musical Domingo Zipoli, a public institution in Córdoba specializing in choral education and comprehensive musical training, from early childhood through to higher education.

Unique in Argentina and South America, this school combines general studies with
intensive daily choral and musical instruction, accompanying students throughout their school career.

The Choirs are made up of school-age boys and girls, renowned for their high artistic standards and varied repertoire, ranging from classical music to Argentine folklore and Latin American works. They perform regularly at local concerts and provincial and national cultural events.

Since its creation in 1956 by Maestro Herbert Diehl and its subsequent development within the Córdoba School of Children’s Singers, the ensemble has evolved under the direction of various conductors, consolidating its reputation as one of the region’s most distinguished children’s choirs. Currently, one of the Choirs’ directors is Santiago Serna, a Córdoba-trained conductor who also participates in university choral activities at the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba. Under his direction, the Córdoba Children’s Choir continues to perform at concerts, cultural festivals and choral gatherings, promoting musical excellence and vocal development among young singers.

THE CHOIR DIRECTOR: Santiago Serna

Throughout his career, Santiago Serna has forged a musical path marked by passion, artistic excellence and a deep vocation for the choral arts. From the outset, his sensitivity as an interpreter and the clarity of his gestures have distinguished him as a conductor capable of combining technical precision and expressiveness, thus consolidating his own artistic identity.

On the international scene, he was invited to direct the Andover School Choir in Boston (USA), where he worked on and presented a repertoire of Latin-American music, introducing new audiences to the rhythmic, harmonic and cultural richness of our region. This experience strengthened artistic exchanges and consolidated his reputation abroad. Likewise, the 2018 European tour marked an important turning point in its career, bringing its musical proposition to international stages and reaffirming the universal character of choral singing.

He is a professor and choral conductor at the National University of Córdoba, where he carries out an intense pedagogical and artistic activity, training new generations of musicians and choral conductors in a holistic approach that combines technique, sensitivity and cultural commitment.
Active member of ADICORA (Association of Choral Conductors of the Argentine Republic),
he is part of the professional network that promotes the excellence and valorization of
choral conducting in the country.

With an ever-expanding career, Santiago Serna continues to assert an artistic profile
where academic excellence, aesthetic sensitivity and the deep conviction that
choir music is a bridge of encounter, identity and cultural transformation.

Awards & distinctions

His talent was recognized early on by the National Arts Fund’s Best Young Conductor Award, a distinction that highlighted his influence and commitment to cultural development. He has also won competitions in conducting and Choirs, successes that have reaffirmed his musical mastery and artistic leadership.
