MSGA Girl’s Choir

Choir presentation
The MSGA Girls Choir was founded in 1989, 20 years after the Children’s Choir began its activities. The choir members are between 12 and 23 years old and all attend our school or are former students. Many of our singers perform in both choirs (the children’s choir and the girls’ choir), which ensures continuous renewal of the choir members. Some singers continue to participate in the choir’s activities after completing their secondary education and leaving school.
There is no specialized music education at the school and most singers have never attended music schools. It is the passion for singing together that perpetuates the choral singing tradition.
The choir members are proud to represent their city, their region, and their country, as well as the Hungarian minority living in Slovakia, through the numerous concerts they perform in their country and abroad.
The repertoire ranges from the Renaissance to the 21st century, both a cappella and with musical accompaniment, in various languages: Hungarian, Slovak, Latin, English, and Italian.
Particular emphasis is placed on mastering unison singing in arrangements of traditional Hungarian songs.
THE CHOIR DIRECTOR: Silvia Kekenák and Andrea Ferencei
The choir members are directed by two conductors: Ms. Silvia Kekenák and Ms. Andrea Ferencei, both former choir members, with Ms. Kekenák also being the daughter of the founder of our choirs.
The conductors have worked together for over 20 years at the same school and have developed and shared a flourishing partnership based on mutual respect, the joy of teaching young people, and a love of choral singing.
