Asparagus & Melon Voices

Choir presentation
The “Asparagus&Melon” Choir was founded in summer 2004. It is a choir from the Biel School of Music, directed by singer Fanny Anderegg. Since then, the group has focused on a varied and fresh repertoire, exploring different languages (French, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Latin, Zulu,…) and cultures. The choir’s concerts are always an opportunity to share its joy of singing and zest for life with the audience.
Between jazz and rap, world music and gospel, bossa nova and pop, the 16 singers of the “Asparagus&Melon” group approach choral singing from a completely different and explosive angle. A true burst of energy!
THE CHOIR DIRECTOR: Fanny Anderegg
Singer, author, and composer – she first studied piano and began organ and singing lessons at the Biel Conservatory in 1996. After graduating, she entered the professional singing class at the Montreux Conservatory, Jazz section. There, she met Susanne Abbuehl, whom she followed to Basel two years later.
In 2003, she obtained her pedagogy diploma from the University of Music, Jazz section, in Basel.
Since then, she has taught singing (EMJB /EMB), directed choirs, served as a singing professor and didactician at HEMU Lausanne, led numerous vocal workshops in Switzerland and abroad, and regularly composes for theater, orchestras, and choirs.
Passionate about non-European cultures, she continues her training, notably with Lakshmi Santra (India), with whom she deeply studies Hindustani singing.
From her incessant travels, Fanny Anderegg brings back memories in the form of songs (La figlia dal Vent); and it was following a walk to Santiago de Compostela that she recorded her second album: Le 8ème jour.
In May 2010, a new CD, Home, was released. Drawing inspiration from interviews with about thirty people of different ages, cultures, and origins, Fanny Anderegg explores in their roots what constitutes their sense of belonging, their “homeland.”
In March 2013, the album HAPAX was created. The core quartet expanded to include a cello and a trombone.
In 2015, she composed the music and lyrics (orchestra and choir) for the show “Le Géant aux doigts de fée” – a multidisciplinary cultural mediation project staged by the Théâtre de la Poudrière.
She created the electro-acoustic duo “L’HORÉE” with Vincent Membrez, releasing a first EP in 2017 and the album Des Voiles in autumn 2019.
In autumn 2018, she created the young audience show “Le mystérieux chevalier sans nom,” for which she notably composed the music.
In 2022, she formed the Fanny Anderegg New Quartet (Lionel Friedli, Stefan Aeby), with whom she performs throughout Switzerland.
In March 2024, the musical book “Utana Ajadi” was released, an interdisciplinary and intergenerational project for which she serves as artistic director and composer.
