AMVP Youth Choir

The Youth Choir of the Vilar do Paraíso Academy of Music made its debut at the Rivoli Theatre in Porto in 1984, under the direction of Maestro José de Castro, who dedicated himself to its leadership for over twenty years.

The choir was conducted by Bruno Pereira between 2007 and 2018, with the exception of 2009 and 2010 when it was led by Iryna Horbatyuk.

Boasting a varied repertoire, this choir is currently a subject within the fundamental and secondary musical curriculum of our academy and is composed of approximately thirty young people aged between 14 and 18.

Since 2018, the choir has been conducted by Patrícia Quinta, with Pedro Ludgero as the piano accompanist.

 

Awards & distinctions

Since its founding, this choir has participated in several concerts and choir meetings both within the country and abroad, including:

European Music Festivals for Young People (Neerpelt, 1986, 1994, 1996, 2002), where it won two first places and a First Prize Cum Laude; 3rd Neuchâtel Choral Music Festival (Switzerland, 1989), where it received an honorable mention; International Music Festivals for Youth in Vila Nova de Gaia; Madeira Choir Festival; 1001 Musicians Concert (CCB-Lisbon, 2007 and 2008); Concert in Alcalá de Henares (Madrid, 2008); Opening Gala of the World School Sport Championship (Fafe, 2009); Rotary Club Gaia Concerts (Espinho, 2010, 2012, and 2013); Closing Concert of the Guimarães Capital of Culture Festival (Guimarães, 2012); Bla la la Festival, exchange with the Choeur Maîtrisien Wasquehal (Gaia, 2013); John Rutter’s “Requiem” Concert (Gaia, 2013); Concerts in Lille, exchange with the Choeur Maîtrisien Wasquehal (Lille, 2013); Bob Chilcott’s “Requiem” Concert (Gaia, 2014); Allen Pote’s children’s opera “The Legend of the Three Trees” (Casa da Música-Porto, 2018); and W. Amadeus Mozart’s opera “The Magic Flute” – reduced version (Gaia, 2019).
