Based in Rue, in the canton of Fribourg, Chœur Horizon shares a warm, secular repertoire largely dedicated to French chanson.

Awards & distinctions

Founded in 1999 by four friends, Chœur Horizon has never stopped growing and evolving. Today, about twenty singers of all ages meet in Rue, in the canton of Fribourg, driven by the same desire: to work seriously while cultivating conviviality and the pleasure of singing together.

Its repertoire, essentially secular, gives a large place to French chanson and original arrangements. From Édith Piaf, Barbara, and Jacques Brel to Jean-Jacques Goldman, Michel Sardou, or Vanessa Paradis, the choir loves to change universes and surprise its audience. Rock also finds its place in its programs, with tracks by Queen, Scorpions, or Toto. This diversity gives Chœur Horizon a generous, accessible identity full of momentum.

THE CHOIR DIRECTOR: Olivier Hartmann

Olivier Hartmann completed his studies at the University and the Geneva Conservatory of Music, as well as at the HEMU in Lausanne. In addition to keyboard instruments, he studied musicology, music education, and choral conducting in the class of Michel Corboz. He was introduced to orchestral conducting by Chen Liang-Sheng and studied singing with Thierry Dagon and later Hiroko Kawamichi.

After teaching solfège and music theory, Olivier Hartmann worked for several years in the field of heritage preservation before devoting himself fully to his career as an organist, arranger, and choir conductor. An eclectic musician, as comfortable with harmonized song as with sacred music, he has directed the mixed choirs of Dompierre VD and Palézieux, as well as the Ensemble Cuadrinio of Pully since 2010. He is the titular organist for the Protestant parish of Bussigny and Villars-Sainte-Croix.
