Girl’s Choir Puellae Orantes

The PUELLAE ORANTES Cathedral Girls’ Choir was founded in 1985 and has since continuously carried out educational and concert activities.

Its founder and choirmaster is Reverend Władysław Pachota. Its Artistic Director is Aleksandra Topor, who is also responsible for vocal training.

Awards & distinctions

The choir trains girls aged 10 to 22. Since its founding, it has won 26 international choral competitions.

As the best choral ensemble, it has won the Grand Prix five times at international choral competitions—in Arezzo (Italy), Varna (Bulgaria), Florence (Italy), Taipei (Taiwan) and Rimini (Italy), where it won the Grand Prix of the Competition. In addition to this Grand Prix, the “Puellae Orantes” choir received a medal awarded by the President of Italy.

In 2019, the choir achieved spectacular success at the Taipei International Competition (Taiwan), winning two gold medals, one silver medal, and a special prize for the best performance of a Taiwanese piece by a foreign choir.

The choir gives many concerts. It has toured extensively in the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Austria, Germany and France. It has also performed in the United States, Slovakia, Hungary, Denmark, Bulgaria, Spain, Taiwan and Japan.

The choir has released 12 CDs, three of which were nominated for Poland’s most important music award, FRYDERYK, and one of them received the FRYDERYK statuette. In addition, the choir’s recordings have been awarded several Gold and Platinum CDs and DVDs.

The Tarnow choir not only initiates but also produces innovative and unique artistic projects with the participation of outstanding artists, such as a collaboration with the Vienna Soloists Orchestra, with which the choir recorded the album “The Strauss Route”, featuring the most famous waltzes and polkas of the Strauss dynasty in a vocal and instrumental version.

In 2015, the choir gave concerts with the Grammy-winning ensemble “The King’s Singers”.

In 2016, it performed with the world-renowned brass quintet “Canadian Brass”, and in 2019, the choir gave the concert “Vivat Polonia” under the direction of the eminent Japanese conductor Chikara Imamura.

More than 100 works composed or arranged by over a dozen composers have been written for “Puellae Orantes”.

The choir has recorded for Polish television and Polish radio, France 2 and France 3 (French television), Vatican Radio, and Dutch and French radio stations.
