JANE SET

Choir presentation

JANE ENSEMBLE was founded in 2004 in Velika Gorica, a town near Zagreb, the capital of Croatia.

The group has 25 members, including tamburitza players who accompany the singers on traditional Croatian instruments.

Most members are female singers who have been active for many years in several amateur folk ensembles in the Turopolje region (the area around the town of Velika Gorica, with a rich folk tradition), while several of the girls gained their singing experience in various choirs in Zagreb County.

The songs in their repertoire cover all of Croatia, and their performances highlight the great diversity and richness of their homeland’s traditional musical expression. They show great love and enthusiasm for Croatian cultural heritage and strive to protect traditional folk and religious songs from being forgotten. The group also performs more recent songs written by Croatia’s most prominent composers.

JANE is proud to present Croatian customs worldwide. Their quality has been recognised by various specialists in traditional music and has earned JANE outstanding achievements, honours, and awards at international and national competitions.

THE CHOIR DIRECTOR: Ana Jaklinović

The group is also led by Alina Haraminčić, the group’s president; Mery Barišić, as secretary; and Danijel Skrbin, who oversees all organisational needs as well as serving as the group’s manager. The conductor of the JANE ensemble is Ana Jaklinović.

The overall impression of the vocal-instrumental group JANE is that its music and appearance make it a distinctive young ensemble which, guided by its love for its homeland, seeks to promote all its beauty, both at home and throughout the rest of the world.
