Chamber Mixed Choir of Vilnius University Hospital Santara

The Chamber Mixed Choir of Vilnius University Hospital Santara is the mixed choir of the Vilnius University Hospital Santara. The choir was organized at the initiative of several active neurologists in October 2018. The choir members are doctors, nurses, and other hospital employees for whom music plays an important role in their lives. The first concert took place in December 2018.
The choir, conducted by Gabriele Rastenyte-Malisauskiene, promotes Lithuanian folk songs performed in both traditional and contemporary styles, as well as songs by Lithuanian composers, introducing secular and ecclesiastical vocal music to Lithuanian society.
Every year, the choir participates in Christmas concerts at the Santara clinics and St. Ignatius Church, and organizes concerts for the employees, patients, and visitors of the Santara clinics. In November 2024, at the invitation of the Evangelische Kirche Finthen choir, they participated in a project in the city of Mainz, Germany, where they performed Louis Vierne’s Messe Solennelle op.16.
THE CHOIR DIRECTOR: Gabrielė Rastenytė-Mališauskienė
In 1994, Gabrielė Rastenytė-Mališauskienė founded the women’s choir “Guostė” and conducted it until 2021. For many years, the choir belonged to the Lithuanian Armed Forces Officers’ Club and performed extensively for the Lithuanian Armed Forces and the public. It represented Lithuania in international competitions and festivals in Ireland, Italy, Malta, Hungary, Germany, Canada, and Iceland. The choir was disbanded due to the reorganization of the Officers’ Club.
A new Chamber Mixed Choir of the Vilnius University Hospital “Santara” was born in 2018 thanks to Gabrielė Rastenytė-Mališauskienė and several active doctors at the Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Clinics. Gabrielė Rastenytė-Mališauskienė performs actively with this choir in Lithuania and participates in international choral festivals and competitions.
