THE CHOIR DIRECTOR: Martin Runggaldier

Martin (30), then aged 20, began choral conducting in 2013 as the leader of the Town St. Christina youth choir. His passion for choral music led him to seize an invaluable opportunity in 2016 when he attended a prestigious choral conducting masterclass at the University of Pretoria in South Africa. The class was led by Dr. Brady Allred, a renowned figure from Salt Lake Choral Artists in the United States. During this training period, Martin found a mentor in Christo Burger, a prominent South African conductor who leads the Akustika Chamber Singers. Christo, who is also the co-founder and mentor of the Ladinia Women’s Chorus, played a crucial role in Martin’s development as a conductor.

Under Christo’s mentorship, Martin gained invaluable knowledge, refined his technique, and deepened his understanding of the art of conducting. The influence of Brady Allred’s masterclass, combined with Christo Burger’s guidance and mentorship, propelled Martin’s growth as a conductor. Their collective expertise and passion for choral music instilled in Martin a deep appreciation for the art and the ability to lead and inspire others through music.

Martin also took choral conducting courses with Claudio Büchler at the Landeskonservatorium in Innsbruck, where he gained further valuable experience. Under the direction of Claudio Büchler, a respected choir director and educator, Martin was able to deepen his knowledge and improve his conducting skills. The courses allowed him to interact with other aspiring choir directors, learn new techniques, and expand his repertoire. These experiences strengthened Martin’s passion for conducting.
These experiences fueled Martin’s passion for choral conducting and helped him reach his full musical potential.
