Based in Chalon-sur-Saône, the Maîtrise Chalonnaise Saint Charles trains children and teenagers in choral singing and supports them in ambitious projects across France and Europe.

Awards & distinctions

The Maîtrise Chalonnaise Saint Charles is part of a long-standing choral tradition in Chalon-sur-Saône. Successor to the Maîtrise of Saint-Vincent Cathedral, which was active from 1903 to 1965, it was relaunched in 2007 before taking its current name in 2011, in connection with the Saint Charles Borromée school complex.

The choir and pre-choir welcome children and teenagers without requiring prior musical training. The curriculum combines singing, vocal technique, breathing, score reading, and stage performance. The repertoire ranges from sacred and secular music to contemporary works, performed a cappella or with accompaniment. Concerts, new creations, exchanges with other choirs, and European travels complete this training. In 2027, the young choristers will discover Milan and Genoa as part of a tailor-made tour.

THE CHOIR DIRECTOR: Eloïse Magat

A choir conductor, violinist, and educator, Eloïse Magat has been the artistic and pedagogical director of the Maîtrise Chalonnaise Saint Charles since the start of the 2026 school year. A state-certified professional, she trained in Willems musical pedagogy and has worked with children’s voices for several years. A 2025 laureate of the Fondation Royaumont and winner of five prizes at the National Competition for Young Talent in Choir Conducting, she also directs several vocal ensembles and develops projects where training, creation, and stage excellence meet.
