Bærum Girls’ Choir

Choir presentation

The objective of the Bærum Girls’ Choir is to promote the dissemination of vocal art and to provide choristers with a high-quality education in music and singing. We emphasize maintaining a high standard, which requires significant effort.

Strict requirements are set for choir members, as outlined in the statutes and regulations. Singing in a choir is a team effort; every effort must be made to achieve results. We also insist that the choir must be an enjoyable place. We find that many of our choristers stay with us for many years precisely because of this successful combination of musical challenges within a positive social environment.

The choir is currently divided into the following subgroups:

Aspirant Choir – for girls in 2nd and 3rd grade. During this period, aspirants acquire basic knowledge, such as the use of the voice and singing in a group. This training is led by Ingrid Stige, who is artistically responsible for the group.

Junior Choir – for girls from 4th to 6th grade. During this period, junior choristers acquire skills such as vocal technique, reading sheet music, and learning polyphonic singing. The oldest junior choristers participate in an associate group that extends a rehearsal once a month to prepare for admission into the main choir. Choir conductor Christina Thingvold has artistic responsibility for the Junior Choirs.

Main Choir – for girls from 7th grade onwards. In the main choir, additional rehearsals allow for more in-depth work on the choir’s repertoire. Choir conductor Ingrid Stige has primary artistic responsibility for the choristers. Choir conductor Christina Thingvold complements the vocal work and holds her own rehearsals with specific sections of the choir or vocal groups.

Bærum Girls’ Choir wears the traditional costume of the town of Bærum.

Bærum Girls’ Choir is affiliated with Ung i Kor (UiK) and receives operational support from the municipality of Bærum.
