Oschirese Polyphonic Choir

Piccolo Grande Coro Oschirese

Choir presentation

The ASDC association “Piccolo Grande Coro Oschirese” may be described as such within the community of Oschiri, a small town in northern Sardinia. This association has become one of the cultural pillars of the local community. A 20-year commitment and a major anniversary celebrated with great pomp during the summer of 2022. Over the years, the “Piccolo Grande Coro Oschirese” has broadened its horizons, both through its countless activities and through its reach, which extends beyond regional, national and international borders. The Oschiri Polyphonic Choir and the Oschiri Ballet School have also developed within it, not to mention its commitment to children through the Summer Playroom projects. There have been many initiatives and trips abroad to take part in singing events: from Switzerland to Argentina, from the Czech Republic to Spain, and even to France, Turkey, Austria and Poland, up to the recent trip to Malta at Christmas time. One of the most important milestones in the association’s history

In October 2008, the association took part in the first phase of the important Aquarium 2008 Peace Convention in Argentina, as a representative of Italy and Europe. The convention took place in Iguaçu, home to the fabulous waterfalls on the border between Argentina and Brazil. The event was sponsored by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Adolfo Pérez Esquivel. In 2009, for the second part of the Convention, the association took charge of the organisation, with Nobel Peace Prize laureate Adolfo Pérez Esquivel present in the community of Oschiri. In addition to Oschiri, the event involved the towns of Bitti, Bulzi, Arzachena, San Teodoro and Olbia.

Awards & distinctions

June 2022 marked the twentieth anniversary of an association now firmly rooted in the area, which has always been a reference point in the world of music and dance, but also in associations and volunteering, thanks to its frequent collaborations with major organisations such as AIDO, AVIS and ADMO. The celebrations were rich in events over four days. The dances were opened by the young dancers of the Oschiri Ballet School with masters Giancarlo Solinas and Gabriela Masia. The following evening, it was the turn of the Cordas e Cannas concert “Terra Muda”, with the participation of the Oschiri Polyphonic Choir. The third evening was dedicated to theatre, with the brilliant comedy “4500 mots volatils” by the Bobo Scianel theatre company. The final evening was dedicated to the choral review at the theatre, featuring the Oschirese Polyphonic Choir conducted by Maestro Marco Putzu, the Sant’Alene Choir of Tula conducted by Maestro Giovanni Marongiu, and the Silanus Polyphonic Choir conducted by Maestro Cinzia Falchi.

Finally, the inauguration of the commemorative stone created by the artist A. Batzu and donated by the ASDC Association “Piccolo Grande Coro Oschirese” as a token of thanks and to raise awareness among all organ, marrow and blood donors. A moment accompanied by the Banda Musicale “Pietro Fresu” of Oschiri, the Mayor of Oschiri and a large audience.
A four-day event, followed at every moment, which brought together an entire community in recognition of twenty years of work which, thanks to the “Piccolo Grande Coro Oschirese”, carries the name and values of Oschiri in Sardinia, in Italy and around the world. It is a commitment that continues, and will see the Association pursue its many projects, driven by the same passion that planted a seed twenty years ago, which has now flourished and stands as a cultural and social reference point for the community of Oschiri.

“We are very proud of the journey we have made over these years. Thank you to everyone who has enabled us to grow,” said President Giovanni Schintu. “First of all, to all the founding members, as well as the various municipal administrations that have succeeded one another over the years and have always supported our initiatives. Thank you to all the choristers of today and yesterday, to all the children and their parents. I hope they will always support us, thus contributing to the growth of an association which, over the years, has given so much to the town of Oschiri in terms of culture, sport and entertainment.”
