Saint Mark’s Mastery

Choir presentation

Founded over 35 years ago by Nicolas Porte, the Saint-Marc Little Singers Choir has built a national and international reputation over the years. Numerous festivals, concerts, tours, and recordings have marked its journey. Among these is the film “Les Choristes”, to which they lent their voices.

Today, a new chapter is being written. The Choir continues its journey under a new identity: “LA MAÎTRISE SAINT-MARC – Les Choristes”, still under the direction of Nicolas Porte.

The integration of this renowned Choir is now open to all children, aged 8 to 18, who are drawn to and passionate about choral singing, from all public or private schools. The individualized artistic path allows each child to find their place and flourish.

Awards & distinctions

Over the years and through numerous concerts, the Saint-Marc Little Singers Choir, now Maîtrise Saint-Marc, has performed with consistent success on stages worldwide, particularly in Asia (China, Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore, Japan…), the Near East (Lebanon), on the African continent (Algeria, Ivory Coast), in Europe (Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, Czech Republic…), and in the Overseas Departments (Tahiti, New Caledonia, Réunion…). These are just a few examples, and many destinations await them today. Tours offer children an exceptional experience where music, encounters with other children, cultural discovery, exchanges, and tourism are also on the agenda.

The Choir’s repertoire is very broad. Originally, it was more focused on sacred music, ranging from Gregorian chant to the 21st century. Today, it has diversified to give contemporary music an interesting place. Secular and popular music (songs, folklore, etc.) also has its place among the works offered in concert. And in each country, the children sing a few songs in the local language.

The Choir is regularly accompanied by high-quality orchestras of all styles. During their travels, the Choristers perform before personalities from all walks of life: Prince Charles, Queen Sofia, Barbara Hendrix…. Television sets also provide them with opportunities for wonderful encounters, both in France and abroad.

THE CHOIR DIRECTOR: Nicolas Porte

Upon the choir’s creation, his teaching career was complemented by an international career as a choir conductor.
Nicolas Porte was made Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters, an honorary citizen of Rocamadour, and received the Medal of Music awarded by the Paris Lyon group, a medal recognizing his efforts to promote and develop choral singing.

With the choir, he is Étoile d’Or du Sénat (Golden Star of the Senate) for their actions in favor of the underprivileged.

He also received a Diamond Record (for the film Les Choristes) and a Platinum Record (for a CD of the most beautiful Christmas carols).
