Cathedral Girl’s Choir PUELLAE ORANTES

 

The PUELLAE ORANTES Cathedral Girls’ Choir was established in 1985 and since then has continuously been carrying out educational and concert activities. The choir’s founder and conductor is Rev. Władysław Pachota. The artistic director is Aleksandra Topor, who is also responsible for vocal training.

The choir educates girls aged 10 to 22.

It has won 26 choral competitions. As a top scorer, it has claimed the Grand Prix of international choral competitions five times – in Arezzo (Italy), Varna (Bulgaria), Florence (Italy), Taipei (Taiwan) and Rimini (Italy), where it won the top trophy. In addition to the Grand Prix of the competition, the “Puellae Orantes” choir received the medal awarded by the President of Italy.

In 2019, it had a spectacular success at the International Competition in Taipei (Taiwan), winning two gold medals, a silver one and a special prize for the best performance of a Taiwanese piece by a foreign choir.

The choir gives a lot of concerts. It has toured the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Austria, Germany and France on numerous occasions. It has also performed in the United States, Slovakia, Hungary, Denmark, Bulgaria, Spain, Taiwan and Japan.

The choir has released 12 CDs, three of which were nominated for the most important Polish music award, FRYDERYK, and one of them received the FRYDERYK statuette. In addition, the choir’s phonographic releases have been awarded Gold and Platinum CDs and DVDs.

The choir from Tarnow is the originator and producer of innovative, unique artistic projects with the participation of outstanding artists, for instance, together with the Orchestra of the Vienna Soloists the choir recorded the album “Strauss’s Route”, containing the most famous waltzes and polkas of the Strauss dynasty in a vocal and instrumental version.

In 2015, the choir performed concerts with the Grammy-winning ensemble “The King’s Singers”. In 2016 it performed with the most famous brass quintet “Canadian Brass”, and in 2019 the choir gave the “Vivat Polonia” concert under the baton of the eminent Japanese conductor Chikara Imamura.

More than 100 works composed or arranged by more than a dozen composers have been written for “Puellae Orantes”. The choir recorded for the Polish Television and for the Polish Radio, France 2 and France 3 French Television, Vatican Radio, Dutch and French broadcasting radio stations.
