Rutafa Mixed Choir

Rutafa Mixed Choir is a Hungarian choir from Pécel, a city located near Budapest in Hungary. This vocal formation is one of the three members of the Youth and Children’s Choir of Pécel. The choir consists of high-school and university students as well as of enthusiastic parents, who are passionate

about singing. The mixed choir formation Rutafa has been active since 2009 under the direction of its founder and conductor Zsuzsa Szilágyiné Szalai and with the help of assistant conductors Nóra Szabó and Benjámin Szilágyi.

The choir performs diverse programs from Gregorian to gospel, encompassing various periods of music history and presenting masterpieces of the rich choir repertoire.

The Rutafa Mixed Choir has performed in numerous festivals in Hungary, Finland, Transylvania (Romania) and Vojvodina (Serbia). For Rutafa, it is always a pleasure to maintain contact with different choirs from Hungary and abroad, therefore it is always an honour to sing at formal or prestigious events.

Zsuzsa Szalai Szilágyiné, Conductor

Zsuzsa Szalai Szilágyiné graduated from the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest with excellent results. She specialised in secondary school music teaching in addition to conducting in the class of József Maklári and Valér Jobbágy. After completing her studies, she taught solfege, music theory, voice training and worked as a piano accompanist in music schools and music conservatories. She currently teaches music and singing from grades 1 to 8 in a primary school where the music department is based on the ideas of Zoltán Kodály, a method created by the great Hungarian composer himself.

Zsuzsa Szilágyiné Szalai is the choir director and founder of the Rutafa Choir Family (2003), which includes a Children’s Choir, a Youth Choir and a Mixed Choir. Since their formation, they continue to play a fundamental role in the cultural life of the town of Pécel and in the Hungarian music scene.
